Article 03, paisea 003. Visions, connections and stolen landscape, the private gardens of luis barragán, a comparison between various examples. Desirée Martínez.

Luis Barragán, landscape architect and mexican architect, is without doubt the father of contemporary landscape architecture in México. Before his doings, mexican gardens were designed with a strong arabichispanic influence according to criteria inherited by the colonial epoch. A pioneer in the history of mexican gardens is the Ortega Garden and House, constructed in the decade of the forties. Although Barragán himself observes that the design of this garden was inspired by the gardens of Granada, the spatial concept of Ortega Garden constitutes a new paradigm in the handling of open spaces.
